break...

When it's warm enough, my favorite type of break is reading on the balcony with a good coffee. Late afternoon, I also like to sip a little drink.

The Tools Artists Use is such a great source of inspiration and infos. Found through a series of links that started here.

walk...

Spring is finally here! Well it was last Saturday. It was warm and sunny. I took several walks in my neighborhood, running errands. I love walking in the back alleys.

Surfing on Twitter the other day, I found the gorgeous work of British artist Mary Jane Ansell.

cards...

Wow! Two blogs in one day! Well I forgot to say that I relisted some my blank greeting cards here, here and here.

Miss Villeray...

My weekend started with a drink at Miss Villeray, an old neighborhood bar that was revamped and is now busier than ever. They've change the sign though and I think it was way better before. You can see the new sign here and links to the old sign under the photo.

Friday was the first real spring day and people were in a real good mood.

Speaking of old graphics, some wonderful CD covers are shown on Hard Format (found through Mehallo's tweets.)

la grande machinerie...

I went to see the play La grande machinerie du monde presented by the collective PàP, written by Patrice Dubois. Their work is always so brilliant! They asked the very talented Lino to do the poster for the play. Gorgeous!

The weekend is here! I wish you a very good one, full of sun and warmth!

Caffè Italia...

I had to work Sunday. So before I went there, I decided to treat myself to a wonderful panini at Caffè Italia. It's located in the heart of Little Italy and is probably the mother of all Montreal's Italian coffee shops. It's always filled with people: old Italian men gather together to talk about politics and football, young people come for coffees, writers, families... The coffee is exquisite and the paninis are excellent. One of Montreal's mile stone.

manhattan...

My friend Johanne went to New York recently and brought me back this lovely notebook that she got at the Strand. It's been two years since I've been in New York. I went with my 13 years old niece (she's 15 now). It was her first time there. We had so much fun!

I find the design police stickers hilarious! We all would have needed them when I was working for a book editor. Found through Steve Mehallo's tweet.

tagged...

I got tagged by Epe. The rules are:
1. Respond and rework. Answer the questions on your blog, replace one question you dislike with a question of your own invention. 2. Tag six other un-tagged people. Change the rules if you wish (I did).

What is your current obsession?
Trying to find time to do everything I need to do.

What are you wearing right now?
PJs: red, orange and pink t-shirt, grey sweat pants, Chinese slippers.

Do you nap a lot?
Not really. I have periods where I do it more.

Who was the last person you hugged?
My friend Berthe.

If you were a tree, what tree would you be?
A red pine tree. I love to walk in a pine tree forest.

What’s for dinner?
Cod fish and asparagus.

What was the last thing you bought?
Besides food, I bought a black vest.

What are you listening to right now?
CBC French radio

What is your favourite weather?
After a long winter: spring, with all its promises

What’s on your beside table?
Books, an alarm clock, a magnifying glass, 2 lip balms, a paper tissue box, a small basket with mostly bracelets, a pen, a step counter…

Say something to the person/s who tagged you.
Thanks for the surprise Epe. It is very nice to meet you! I love your blog!

What was the last play you saw?
La grande machinerie du monde at Espace GO. Very good!

Favourite vacation spot?
I think it would be Iles de la Madeleine, here in Québec. It’s a bunch of small islands out in the Atlantic. Just beautiful and quiet.

A book you're currently reading?
I’m reading Saturday by Ian McEwan.

What is your favourite sound?
A child’s giggle.

What would you like to get rid of?
A few pounds maybe.

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
Where my boyfriend lives.

What did you want to become as a child?
I don’t really remember. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be a biologist or a painter. I became a biologist, changed my life and am now a graphic designer. Not bad :)

Your favorite movie?
Too many!

What was your favorite moment today?
As the day is just beginning for me, I would say right now. Writing with my purring cat on my lap.

I'm tagging, Camille, Mezzo, Shannon, Carotte & Lychee, Vanessa and be.

The five first persons I tagged are members of the EtsyQ team. We're having a nice giveaway here.

fun work...

I had another very busy week at work, combined with a nasty cold, I wasn't able t blog and I missed it.

I had a lot of fun at work though. Wednesday, there was a video shooting for a multimedia projection for one of the museum we're working on. And Thursday we did the audio recording of the narrations that will be used in another museum project.

The actor up there with the pinch is actually a magician and he was in this beautiful video of Lhasa de Sela who is releasing a new album these days.

street closed...

After my walk around St-James Church, I went back on Ste-Catherine street and headed toward the bus stop. On my way I saw so many people enjoying the sun's warmth.

Looking left to cross a street, I saw the mounted police squad. So I stop to take some photos, wondering what was going on. I also saw some policemen dressed in anti riot gear. I still had no clue and continued taking photos (sometimes my head doesn't compute very fast).

The mounted police proceeded toward the action.

Then a policeman told me "huh... Mam, you know that they are throwing bricks?" I finally got it and moved away.

They were protesting against police brutality which is a reality. But the protesters were throwing bricks, broke store fronts, cars, old ladies were running away from the violence. 200 people were arrested out of a total of 400 protesters. One police man was injured. It seems some people think that you have to fight brutality with more brutality.

Oh and yes, this is a police man. For almost a year, Montreal police men and women wear colorful army trousers to protest against their working conditions...

Still it was a beautiful day ...

St-James United Church...

It was a wonderful sunny and warmer weekend. Today I went for a walk downtown on Ste-Catherine Street which is a very busy street full of shopping malls, restaurants, boutiques... At one point, the street was closed so we had to make a little detour around St-James United Church. I used to work right across the street and would see it from my office window every day. It is surrounded by big old trees and back then, there was even a little one growing on its roof. I forgot how beautiful it was. They restored the front, which used to be behind stores but I think they ran out of money for the back.

The church is located in the Fur District where one can find fur factories and some other old fabric shops like Georges A. Brobrick, soieries exclusives (exclusive silks).

Now in my next post, you'll know why the street was closed...

cookbooks...

One thing I like to do during the weekend is too look at my cookbooks and try new recipes. It's been a while since I made a full Indian meal. Will go to the market tomorrow and have a Sunday cooking afternoon. Tonight is restaurant with friends... Bon appétit!

March 13, 2009

desk...

So it's been like that all week: work day, work night. On the first photo is my desk at the producer's studio where I work during the day. One the second one is part of my home desk where I do my night shift for my other clients. I'm so happy it's the weekend! Can't wait to cuddle with my cat... on my living room sofa!

I wish you a beautiful weekend full of sun and rest.

midweek...

It's already Wednesday. I'll working day and night all week. I don't have much time for anything else. I know I should not complain in these difficult times... Well one thing I'll do when I find some time is take a longer look at Beast Pieces (woops I forget where I got that link) and Studio on Fire's blog Zero per Zero (link from The Lumper.)

a walk...

Today was sunny and warm enough for some snow to melt. There is still a lot, especially where the sun never goes, but we could feel spring coming. So off course I went for a walk. It seemed every Montrealer decided to do the same. The sidewalks were filled with people. So I stayed out of the beatten paths and walked the smaller streets. I ended up in a coffee shop where I had the most awful cappuccino ever! He he!

I really like the work of Alexandra Hedberg. It is very personnal, unique and edgy. She's one of few artists who's able to "overwork" a piece and make it happen. It's a gift to know when to stop but it's great to be able to continue beyond what one may think is an acheived piece.

Have a very good week everyone and I hope you ladies had a good March 8!

light...

We're having another gray day here. But at least the sun stays out for longer and longer periods. Yay! I wish you a weekend full of light and fun!
