veggies...

seeds greenbeans bellPepper thyme oregano

Here are some of the veggies. I planted carrot, radish and green bean seeds. See how the green beans grew in a couple of days on the second photo! We also have cucumber plants (we had great success with them last year), cherry tomatoes and many herbs. We are even experimenting with a strawberry plant!

I started a journal about the gardens. I compiled the prices of everything and I will also compile our crops. I started to draw some of the plants but I am postponing the drawing until I finish my website.

This my main goal at the moment because I wish to put it online by the end of the week. Yesterday I finally finished preparing the images for my Ipad portfolio to bring at meetings with potential employers/clients and I started to write the texts for each project. I am almost done. I should start building the pages today. For the first time since I started to work on this, I feel like I'm getting somewhere, which is a very good feeling!

Have a good day!

gardens...

shelf gazania shadow pots pansies

Last year, T built a divider on the front balcony so we can have some privacy form our way too close neighbor. We had some left over wood planks so this year, he also built some cute shelves to put plants on. It looks quite rustic which is what I was looking for. I am pretty excited with the results!

So two weeks ago today, we went to the market to get some flowers, veggies and herbs to put on our front and back balconies. I went way way over my budget but who cares? The sunny photos were taken in the front and the two last ones in the back. You may ask why the metal wires? Well we live on the third floor and it can sometimes be very very windy.

Have you seen this? It made me smile big time! Now I am wondering when the "F**c your balcony garden" will be featured? :)

rhubarb...

rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb
With spring comes rhubarb. Every year, I always make at least one batch of rhubarb compote. It is super easy and very good! I don't like it too sweet so it is a bit tart. Here you go:

1 bunch of rhubarb (around 20 stems), washed, no leaves and cut into 2-3 cm pieces.
About 1/2 cup of sugar
About 1/4 cup of water

Put in a pan and cook on high heat until it boils. Lower to medium/low heat and cover so the rhubarb streams and breaks down. It takes less than 15 minutes.

Serve with cake, yogurt or on toast (my favorite).

Enjoy your Sunday!

hello!...

Hi there! It's been a while! Where was I you're asking? Well I was right here! Yep.

I've been up to many thing. I'm still working on my portfolio, I finally translated my resume in English and been sending it to different potential employers with not too many expectations, I've been working actively on our two balcony gardens and they are doing great! I've even been taking some photos that I will share as soon as I muster the will power to edit them.

And at last spring is definitely here. Everything is green and growing. In fact, it now looks more like summer! I hope all is well with you. See you soon!

it's here...

fleur rose
It's finally here! Spring is here! Trees are green and everything is blooming. I planted some green bean, carrot and radish seeds yesterday. On the balcony! We had great success with cucumbers and cherry tomatoes last year so we are extending our experiments. I also took out some last year plants that survived winter. They're in dire need of sun! I'll be waiting a couple of weeks before adding new flowers and herbs just in case it gets cold again.

Wishing you a great weekend!

sculptures...

It was a bit weird finding these two sculpture in the park. They seems to have grown overnight like weeds. Don't know what to think about them. They were installed in an awkward place, with no trees, nothing around while the rest of the park is so pretty. They are also on a very high pedestal which make them hard to look at. I must say, the city of Montreal has a real problem displaying art and should I add, good art. Ah well...

yellow...

fleurs jaunes cloture frost forsythia
It seems that yellow flowers are more keen to bloom earlier.

I started to work on my website yesterday. Although I am using most of the images that were on my old one, it is a lot of work. I am slightly redesigning it and adding a few recent project. That should keep me busy for a while.

I always enjoy reading Platform magazine. The last number is particularly good.

is it spring yet?...

bush wild rose salix lights
Spring is taking its sweet time to settle in for good. Nature has been at a stand still for weeks now. There is some blooming going on, but as you can see, most of the trees are still bare. Fortunately, we had some sun the last few days and it was very welcomed! Today is back to dark grayness and rain.

Don't you find that the first photo makes it look like I'm living in Australia or some dry part of California? :)
